Getting traffic is a long cycle, search engine optimization can take you anywhere from 3 to 6 months, if you have a new website, even sometimes a month if your website has a lot of authority, 12 months, even multiple years if you’re just starting off.

And to get significant traffic it usually takes 3 to 6 months before things start kicking off and years to get what you truly want.

You need to do lots of trial and error before you know what’s working, so you can pinpoint and focus on your winning tactics.

Have no fear! I’m going to be going over 2 things, the first part is what you should be focusing on, and the second part is what you should not be focusing on.

Now let’s go over what you should be focusing on…

1. Work On Your Offer

Once you’ve figured your offer and what’s converting well, you can focus on generating more traffic after that.

But if you get tons of traffic and people don’t want to buy from you, who cares you’re not making any money!

You need to sharpen your skills in your offer and figure out what people want, it’s all about solving people’s problems, if you survey people, and talk to people in your industry, you will figure out what issues people have, solve them, and get tons of sales.

2. Work On Your Lead Generation Strategy.

What I mean by this is, how are you going to get leads? Is it that you need traffic S.E.O. is it that you need paid advertising? Is it that you should cold call? There are many different strategies to get leads and there’s no right or wrong approach.

3. When You Get The Leads You Need To Nurture Them.

How do you get them from a lead to figuring out if they’re qualified, then pitch them, and then close them, you’ve got to nurture them, you can’t expect to get a lead and be like “Yeah they’re just going to give me money”, I wish it worked that way LOL 😂

4. Optimizing For Conversions

Look at your sales process whether you’re talking to someone, or you’re selling online for example e-commerce, like a product page, and checkout page, an upsell or down-sell page.

You need to figure out where the drop-off is in your sales funnel, and what you want to do is whatever steps you’re getting drop-offs, that’s where you need to focus on fixing things up so you can generate more sales.

For example, if most people leave your product page, maybe it’s the images, maybe it’s not detailed enough, not enough reviews, not enough testimonials, not enough star ratings, or it could be the page loads too slow, once you fix that kind of stuff you’ll get far better results in your online business.

5. Creating New Content

It’s all about topic clusters to dominate bigger topics, for example, if online paid ads are your main topic, then do Facebook ads, LinkedIn ads, Google ads, Twitter ads, Instagram ads, and Reddit ads, as subtopics that’s what I mean by content clusters, instead of having all of these as tiny blog posts make them into 1 mega helpful post that the Goggle algorithm will love.

6. Refreshing Content And Optimizing For New Keyword Opportunities That You Can Identify In Google Search Console Or Other Keyword Tools

Using tools like Google search console or Click Funnels will show you all the keyword opportunities that you have with your website, and what’s working for competitors that you could potentially go after.

7. Internal Linking

Everyone talks about “I need to keep making new content to stay successful” but if you’re not linking your old content to your new content it’s going to be hard for Google to crawl your whole site.

Make sure that you use interlinking where it makes sense, don’t do it just for the sake of it, and be careful not to be optimized for too keyword-rich anchor text.

8. Content Pruning

I want you to combine existing pages on the same topics, a lot of times you’re going to need to combine your pages because if your site has been around for many years, you may have loads of articles on the same thing that has been beaten to death.

Eventually, you want to combine them all, delete the pages that don’t make sense and are outdated.

Also, make sure you fix your internal links, you don’t want to have old internal links going to dead pages that no longer exist, even if you’re doing 301 redirects you still want to update those internal links.

Now let’s talk about what you should NOT focus on…

1. Checking Your Traffic And Rankings Every Day

I don’t want you to check your traffic and rankings every day, you should track it every day but you should not have to check it every day.

If you check it biweekly or monthly that’s fine, you can set up alerts so that way when something goes up or down drastically you get notified.

But checking it every day isn’t that important unless you’re in the ad campaigns and you’re optimizing for it, but generally, as a business owner or executive, you should not be checking it every single day.

Your goal is to find opportunities and double down on them, you can do this by finding keywords that are sitting on page 2 or 3, this is better than checking your traffic every single day.

2. Don’t Obsess Over Your Competitors

What you should be doing is obsessing over your customers, if you do what’s best for your customers you will always win hands down!

If you look at companies like Google, they didn’t obsess about the competition they obsess about their customers, look for ideas on how you can also improve your content and be better for your ideal customers.

I also want you to look for keywords using Click Funnels that you may not be targeting right now, but your customers may be looking for, you can do this by looking at the keyword ideas report.

I also want you to use the backlinks opportunity report within Click Funnels that will show you all the people that link to your competitors but don’t link to you.

What you do is put in your URL and then put in a few of your competitors and it will show you all the people that link to multiple competitors but not you.

If people link to not just 1, 2, but 3 or more of your competitors and not you, then chances are they will link to you as well if you kindly ask them, and show them how your content or product is better, if you do that your rankings will climb over time, remember it takes time and effort.
