You’re going to love this! Today I’m going to teach you 5 persuasive words that you can use to control the mind.
The very first word is…
1. You
Now, why is you so powerful? The reason why is that human beings care about W. I. I. F. M. and that means “What’s in it for me?”. We are sometimes very selfish.
We are thinking about…
“Why should I pay attention to this? Why does it even matter? What’s in it for me and why should I even give you, my time?”
When you say the word you, it automatically communicates, hey this is something you need to pay attention to.
I want you to imagine that you’re walking down the street and you hear someone yell “Hey you”.
Your first reaction would be to look and see if that person shouting was talking to you, that’s the power of that word.
In your messaging, marketing, or even when you’re selling one on one, are you using a lot of you, or are using a lot of I, me, or our company?
If you want to succeed in sales, use a lot more you, this will automatically make you more persuasive.
2. Free
That’s right free! People love a bargain and people like free stuff, for example, when you walk into a supermarket or store, and there are free samples and the person says “Hey, would you like to try a free sample? Come on take a bite and try this!”
That’s free right there, people like free stuff, now you got to be very careful and use free selectively, because if you do it too much, it might devalue your product, service, or your offer.
But if you use it intelligently, maybe it’s a free sample or free trial, because you have to understand as human beings, we don’t like risk.
How can we eliminate the risk for the prospects? How could we take some of that risk and put it on our own shoulders?
One of the most powerful ways to do this is to say “Hey, you know what, this is free try it for a certain number of days so you can see if you like it”.
Most of the time the prospect will say “Oh, okay, then that means it’s risk-free for me so what have I got to lose?”
You know how it is, when you try a free sample and you like it, you say it’s pretty good and you buy some more, now compare this to someone saying, “There is no free sample I want you to buy this right now!”
The prospect may get a bit skeptical since it’s new and they have never tried it before, so they may not want to take that risk.
3. New
We want to know what is new, maybe you have done this before, sometimes you talk to your old friend and say.
“Hey, so what’s new or what’s happening?” We want to know what’s new; this is why we tune into the news every day so we can see what’s happening.
We like what’s new because new means it’s exciting, different, and not the typical norm, as human beings we are very nosy.
We want to know what’s new, so in your marketing or maybe your products, service, or whatever is it that you do, can you introduce a new feature, benefit, or a update?
Think about the world for a moment, we want to know what the new movie is, the new song that just came out, or the new video that has just been released.
As humans we all want to know what is new, so think about this, how can you implement something new into your business? To make it fresh and interesting for your customers.
4. Now!
Nothing kills sales more than procrastination; you do not want your prospect to procrastinate.
So, how do you instill the sense of urgency? How do you make sure that they take action now!? Not tomorrow, not the next day, not I’ll get back to you.
I’m talking about right now!
You see the word now itself creates a sense of urgency, even though testing on my own emails, what I found is that using “Click here” compared to “Click here now!”
I’ve seen a slight increase in performance with the one that I added now! too, so where can you use now in your sales?
Just this simple word can spark a thought process in your prospect’s mind to think “Oh wow I need to take some action!”
I’ll prove it to you, take a look at these:
Take action – Take action now!
Buy – Buy now!
Take advantage of this offer – Take advantage of this offer now!
Claim – Claim now!
Do you see the tiny, yet major difference?
5. Secret
Pssst… Come a little closer let me share with you a secret, oops sorry I can’t tell you 😊.
People want to know secrets, what’s going on? It’s the fear of missing out, also known as FOMO you’ve heard that term right?. (Fear Of Missing Out).
People want to know what is the secret? You’ve probably had this in school before, one of your pupils would say “Oh come on I pinkie promise that I won’t tell anyone, just let me know”.
People want to know secrets, and it’s a very powerful word to use, and as humans, it’s embedded within our DNA that we want to know the things that other people don’t know, we want access to knowledge that other people don’t have access to.
