Hey everyone, it’s Adventago here, and in this blog, I’m going to go over 7 subject lines that will give you crazy high email open rates.

One of the lessons that I’ve learned from my copywriting mentor, is that he would ask me “Adventago what is the purpose of an envelope?”.

And I said well I don’t know what the purpose of an envelope is, I guess to put the stamps on it and get it to somebody”.

However, he said, “No, the purpose of an envelope is to get people to open up the letter and see the content inside”.

You see after so many years nothing much has changed when it comes to your subject line.

What is the purpose of the subject line in your email?

Yes that’s correct, it’s to get your readers or subscribers to open up your email, that’s it, nothing more.

However, you may say you know a thing or two about email marketing and subject lines.

But over a few months, I have been able to build a pretty big list of 2000 people, however, it didn’t come overnight.

I had to give value and other perks, for example, videos, blogs, PDFs, and other things that provide value and people would be interested in.

Then they permitted me to email them, now if you’re on my email list then you would know the frequency of the emails we send, depends on what you request.

In some cases, I might send you three emails a week or in other cases, I may send out a daily email. What I’m about to share with you comes from testing and experience.

But first I want to go over, the biggest mistake email marketers make.

One of the biggest mistakes that I see email marketers make, is they try to make the sale in the subject line.

They talk about the offer right in the subject line, the problem with this is people are going to feel as if they’re talking to a salesperson, which will lead to them sadly deleting your email.

Always remember that the subject line is not designed to make the sale, the only purpose of the subject line is to get them to open the email, also the body of the email is not designed to make the sale.

The purpose of an email is to get them to click on the link that takes them to the offer, which then takes them to the next step.

So, without further delay, I’m going to teach you seven email subject lines that are proven to have crazy email open rates, and different examples as to how you can apply these to your own business.

How to survive…

The idea behind this subject line is you might have a solution that could relieve the pain and discomfort that your prospect is going through, or having the possibility of going through in the future.

You need to understand as human beings we do things to avoid pain, rather than to gain pleasure, just like when you’re sitting on a chair when do you shift? When you get uncomfortable.

That’s exactly what your subject line should promise to minimize the pain, or even better, eliminate the pain that your prospect is experiencing, chances are they will open up your emails.

How to survive bankruptcy

How to survive getting stabbed

How to survive having a divorce

Do you see how that gets people curious? There’s some pain there, then they will open up your email, now the variations of this subject line could be. ↓

The biggest mistake … make

The idea behind this subject line is that the focus is more on the negative things that your prospect or your subscribers have to avoid, in order to get the desire, they’re dreaming of, now think about this very carefully.

What makes this such a powerful one is because you’re not talking about a mistake.

Here’s an example, if you were using a mistake.

A mistake … Make.

It’s not as powerful, but if you talk about the biggest mistakes, like the most severe, or the most dangerous ones.

People are going to think “Well I don’t want to make any mistakes!”.

No one likes to make a mistake, you don’t like to make a mistake, and I don’t like to make mistakes.

But, if you were to talk to me about the biggest mistake that I could make, then you’ve definitely gotten my attention, which will lead to people opening your emails.

So let me give an example: ↓

The real secret to…

Psssst keep this between you and me, I’m going to tell you a little secret…

Human beings are nosy as hell, we want to know what is the secret? And very often when we’re not getting a certain result, we start to think there must be something that we don’t know.

We tell ourselves there must be a little fact, or some hidden resource that I don’t know, but, if I get my hands on it, I will finally unlock all the results I am looking for.

However, the word secret has been overused, you see it in every advertisement.

But this subject line plays on that by telling the customer “Yeah there are a lot of different secrets BUT, this is one the real secret that you need to accomplish what you want”, as you can see this is more powerful.

The real secret to writing a subject line that converts.

You can probably tell, this is almost a positive version of the biggest mistakes___ make, however, it’s got a different spin to it.

Here’s a question for you, if you were given a choice of having something quickly or slowly which one would you go for?

I remember a study done by Google.

What they did was analyze billions of different websites, and they saw a trend in the popularity between one website and another.

And what they concluded was that if a website were able to load no longer than five seconds people would stick around.

But why so short? Because we live in a world of instant gratification, if we want something, we want it now!

This is due to how fast companies can give us things, it has now become the norm that something is meant to be in your hands within seconds.

So, when you make a promise of something like the fastest way to___, people are going to pay attention, because you’re giving someone their desired dream in a time frame that they would love.

Here a few examples: ↓

The fastest way to make your first one thousand dollars online.

The fastest way to lose five pounds

The fastest way to grow your garden

The thing that makes this subject line so powerful is that you’re making a very specific promise.

Warning: Here’s how you could screw this up, don’t make outrageous claims that the prospects don’t believe are achievable, to make this subject line work you need to make a believable claim.

If you ignore this advice, you will ruin your credibility, then your prospects won’t open up your emails, let me give an example don’t say:

The fastest way to make a million dollars overnight!!!

You’re overhyping your offer and your prospects are going to think.

“This is B.S there’s no way he or she could do that for me “.

What you want to do is under-promise in your subject line, although your product or service could do more, you want to put less in your subject line.

Here’s a good example, you’re selling a program about weight loss, you believe you could help people lose ten pounds or twenty pounds in thirty days.

Instead, say five pounds, this will make a lot of your readers automatically think.

“You know what I think I can do better than that, I could lose ten pounds”.

Great! This makes it more believable because the reader themselves came up with the goal they believe could be achieved, instead of you diagnosing what they’re capable of.

Between fast and slow we all want fast, we want it now, between easy and hard we want easy.

It’s the same idea, so this subject line focuses on how you can provide a quick and easy solution to your readers.

He’s a shortcut for …, can you see how many ways you can use this simple yet powerful subject line in all your emails? Now let me give you one more tip when you use a subject line like this.

If the offer that you’re making in the email when they click on your page is something that could provide instant gratification for the prospect, you’ll get a lot more sales for example.

It could be a software offer or something that they don’t have to wait to get, for example, a downloadable video or PDF, it can be anything, but it has to be something that people can get access to right now.

If you can do this you will get a lot more sales, easy. 🙂

How I…

You see chances are when your subscribers subscribe to your email list, they value your perspective, so when you use a subject line like this.

It tells them “Oh you’re going to share something personal or, you’re going to share something that you have done, maybe a challenge or an obstacle that you’ve overcome”.

This one is a bit more personal, so make sure to do some storytelling, those are great ways to captivate your audience’s attention.

How I was able to overcome my pain with the power of Jesus

When you’re writing an email with this subject line the key here is to be very vulnerable, share the good, the bad, and the ugly, because this is the type of email where you get personal with your readers.

This is where you show your fans that you’re a real person, and you went through the same hardships that they are struggling with, so make sure to pour your heart out.

Give off the message that “Hey I know what you’re going through I’ve gone through the same thing too, but we are in this together!”

That’s how you make the connection, and that’s how your readers can relate to you.

I love this one! The reason why is that it generates a lot of curiosity, so when your readers see this subject line, they are thinking “What’s wrong with my….” “Is there something wrong with my…” Do you know something that I don’t?

Let me give you some examples: ↓

About your Son/Daughter (I bet as a parent you’ve seen this one before).

Can you see how effective that would be? Since it’s a cliffhanger that people want to click on, a different way to use this subject line is.
