4 Tested Ways On How To Stay Calm At Work And Stop Being Stressed Under Pressure

Have you ever felt that there’s just not enough time in a day to get done what you need to get done?

And you’re always under a lot of pressure, and you feel stressed out because when you finish something it seems that there’s always more and more things piling up?

And you feel like you’re playing catch up, and you tell yourself “Oh my Gosh when is this going to end!”

You see with me, my company, and my little team, there are always more problems, there’s always another project, task, or job to do and they are all happening simultaneously.

It can be very stressful however, it’s just the way things are, now I do from time to time get stressed out, since I am only human, but there are some things that help me manage some of these stressful times.

Also, I’m going to reveal the real secret on how to perform, and function, at a high level, even when you’re under a lot of pressure, so let’s get started!

1. Don’t Be A Perfectionist.

You see a lot of times when we try to make everything perfect, and everything line up, to avoid any mistakes.

The problem is when you are focusing on trying to make everything perfect, you slow down your progress.

Forget trying to make it perfect, chances are it’s not going to be perfect anyway, you are chasing something that almost doesn’t exist.

Since in business whatever you do, when you put it into the marketplace chances are you have to pivot and tweak.

Most of the time you will never see a business plan that fails on paper, on paper, it sounds amazing however, when executed they’re always tweaks that need to be made.

In fact, sometimes you have to trash your plan completely and accept that what you thought doesn’t work.

Having the flexibility to be able to pivot in terms of behaviors and mindset is very critical.

You want to value progress over perfection, you don’t have to get it right you just have to get it going.

As long as you’re moving forward and getting a little bit closer to your goal you should be ok with making some mistakes and not getting it perfect the first time.

2. Script Out Your Day.

I want you to imagine that you are a performer, and you’re about to perform in front of a large group of people at a theatre.

Do you just go out there and start performing and do whatever you feel like comes to you?

No! Everything you do is rehearsed and most importantly scripted, you’re not just scheduling your day, I’m also talking about scripting your day.

Yes, there’s a difference.

Scheduling your day could sometimes end up being other people wasting your time, I’ll prove it, I want you to look at your calendar right now.

Do you have a lot of other people’s agendas on your calendar that are simply distractions, or that you feel like you have to do for someone else?

Versus scripting your day, meaning that you are running your business or pursuing your career and you have identified the core outcome you desire.

Now you think backward and ask yourself how do I script my life so I can reach my dream?

The way to do scripting is that you block out every single thing that you’re going to do throughout the day.

This includes your lunch, exercise, and chillout time, you put it in, and you block it out, so that other people cannot put their agendas onto your calendar.

You must protect your time, in fact, you should protect your time more than your money, since time is your most valuable asset.

If you think you do then you must ask yourself the question, return on time invested, also known as R. O. T.

What is my return if I invest this amount of time talking to this person, meeting with this person, or handling this email?

Versus being all distracted.

Bottom line, make sure to script out your day.

3. Write Everything Out.

When you are feeling seriously stressed, I suggest using this method, in fact, I just taught this to one of my graphic designers.

Right now, my graphic designer is working on a few projects for me, and he had a lot of things on his mind, so he felt a little bit overwhelmed because there’s a deadline.

And I said to him “Instead of keeping everything in your head why don’t you write everything out.”

I asked him to spend around 10 minutes writing everything out, list by list, and then I helped him categorize what he should focus on, suddenly after we did that little exercise, he felt relieved.

In your mind, you may be thinking you’ve got 100 things to do, but when you lay it all out you may only have 20 things to do.

And out of those 20 things, you may realize that you only need to do 2 things this week.

With the help of this exercise, you’re less overwhelmed, when you layout everything.

Don’t keep it in your head, write it out, also once you do this exercise you may realize that there are some things that you don’t even need to do.

Or you could identify tasks that you can do much later if it’s not very critical to the success of this project.

And the last tip I have for you is…

4. Focus On Your Strengths, Not Your Weaknesses.

You see a lot of people get stressed out because they spend a lot of time outside their zone of genius.

You and I are good at a few things, no one is great at everything, and whenever we try to operate outside our zone of brilliance it can be very stressful, since now you’re doing things, you don’t enjoy, and might not have expertise in.

Which can drive you crazy, which will then lead to getting burned out, versus identifying what you love and what you’re good at, then delegating the rest to others.

Now, I know what you’re thinking, “But Adventago, I’m just getting started, I can’t afford a team!”

Let me give you a different perspective, you will never be able to afford it if you don’t first operate from where you are skilled at, you need to delegate those smaller tasks to other people.

Because your weaknesses could be other people’s strengths, let’s say you’re not good with managing taxes.

When you delegate and outsource things you hate and aren’t good at, that frees up your time and your mental bandwidth.

Now you’re less stressed out, which means you can focus on high-income and high-value-producing activities.

That brings in more money, so you could pay for those service providers, that’s how it should work.

You shouldn’t try to do everything yourself, the very fact that you’re trying to do everything yourself, and you’re spending a lot of time on your weaknesses is what’s holding you back from going to the next level.

Don’t focus on your weaknesses focus on your strengths and delegate the things that you hate and aren’t good at to others who are skilled in those fields.
